Article Summary

Why a New Anchor App on Egnyte?

We are thrilled to introduce our new Anchor app, engineered on our enhanced API layer. This update brings:

  • Enhanced Performance and Security: With our optimized APIs, experience more robust security and seamless performance.
  • File Collaboration: Our new app supports collaboration on all office file formats. Whether you're collaborating with internal team members or external partners, work simultaneously on the same file. Plus, your data remains encrypted and secure. Once collaboration ends, all changes will automatically save back to Egnyte.
  • Support for Larger Files: We've upped our game! Now, carry out operations on files up to 1GB. Whether it's a video file or a large dataset, rest assured it's secured with Anchor.
  • Granular Security Controls: Manage user roles and permissions with precision through our Anchor dashboard.

What Does This Mean for Current Clients?

There's no immediate change for our valued clients using the legacy app. We will continue to support all functionalities. However, we're in the process of charting out a migration plan to transition users from the legacy app to our new platform. Details on this will be shared shortly.

Current Limitations

User Attribution in Activity Logs
Any activity performed through the Anchor App will be attributed to the user who initially authorized the integration in the Egnyte admin dashboard. This will appear in the updated_by field in Egnyte's activity logs. To enhance traceability and segregation of responsibilities, we recommend setting up a dedicated admin account with the display name "Anchor Application" for the purpose of adding this integration.

File Versioning
In a collaborative environment, changes to files are automatically saved at frequent intervals. Each save creates a new version of the file in Egnyte, which may result in a high number of file versions over time.

File Conflict Resolution
During collaboration, if a file upload conflict occurs (e.g., the file is locked by another user or application), the Anchor App will create a new file instead of overwriting the existing one. This new file will have a timestamp appended to the original filename to prevent data loss.
