Anchor Recovery Drill

This article will demonstrate how to setup and perform Anchor's data recovery drill.

System Requirements: 

Windows 10/11 or Windows Server 2016 and above


  1. Master Key: USB with the Master Key or Master Key obtained securely from Anchor
  2. SQLite precompiled binaries for windows:
  3. Windows c++ redistributable x64 -
  4. Anchor recovery service: Available on the Anchor dashboard in the Download Installer tab


 Before starting the recovery process, please complete the below step.

 Setup Windows c++ redistributable x64: See tutorial

1.  Download the x64 redistributable from us/topic/the-latest-supported-visual-c-downloads-2647da03-1eea-4433- 9aff-95f26a218cc0

2.  Double click on the downloaded file

3.  The redistributable installs


 Setup Steps:

 1. Download required software/files - See Tutorial

  1. Download the Anchor recovery service from the Anchor dashboard. This is a zip file located in Download Installer Tab -> Windows Server -> anchor-recovery-service
  2. Download the SQLite precompiled binaries for windows - Note: You should download the zip file which starts with: sqlite-tools-win32-x86- (highlighted in the screenshot below) - See Tutorial

 2. Setup directories - See Tutorial

  1.  Unzip the recovery service zip file, you downloaded.

   2. Run setup_directories.bat which is present in the folder unzipped in the previous step. Right-click and run as administrator.

3. Setup SQLite - See Tutorial

 1. Unzip the SQLite binary downloaded in step 1.2. Following are the files available inside the zip file.

 2. Copy all the files inside the unzipped folder and paste in c:\sqlite

 3. Download the latest FileDataKey.csv file and move it to c:\sqlite. Please contact Anchor if you cannot access or find the FileDataKey file.

 4. Run setup_sqlitedb.bat which is present in c:\users\public\datanchortemp. Right-click and run as  administrator. It will take a few minutes for this script to complete. Please be patient.

4. Running Anchor recovery service: See Tutorial

1. Copy the master-key.pem file in your USB to c:\users\public\datanchortemp folder

2. Open the folder_paths.txt in the c:\users\public\datanchortemp folder and type all the folders you want to decrypt. Each folder path should be in a new line.

For example:




3. Now run the PowerShell script anchor_recovery.ps1 present in c:\users\public\datanchortemp in admin mode

4. Please repeat step 3.3, 3.4, 4.2 and 4.3 if you want to decrypt more folders

 Uninstall Steps:

1.   Run uninstall.bat that is located in the Anchor Recovery zip file you downloaded. Right-click and Run as Administrator.
