Article Summary

This article will explain what Authorized applications are and how to use them.

Authorized Applications is a blanket term that includes both Admin Approved Applications and Anchor Certified Applications. Authorized Applications are permitted to consume plain text only when the access rules are satisfied.

Using authorized applications

For example, Notepad is not an authorized application, so opening an anchored file in this application will not allow the user to consume the data. This can be demonstrated using the following steps:

Step 1: Within an Anchored folder, create a .txt file, add text to the file and save it.

Step 2: Notice an Anchor symbol has been added to the file. This means the file is now encrypted with the default access rules.

Step 3: Right-click the new file and open it with WordPad, an Authorized application. You will gain access to the plain text data.

Step 4: Right-click the file and open it with Notepad. Notice you will not have access to plain text since Notepad is not an authorized application.
