This article will discuss how to share Anchored folders/files in Egnyte.
Prerequisites
- Before accessing Anchor features within the Egnyte platform, ensure you have a valid Anchor account set up in the Admin Dashboard.
- Admins can add users to the Anchor platform by assigning them to a specific user role.
- Inputting an email address within a user role automatically creates a new user, provided the email domain is valid.
- The list of valid email domains can be edited by admins and is maintained in the Anchor Dashboard under global policies.
Steps
Step 1: Log Into Egnyte and Select File/Folder
Note: You can also share individual files. Simply select the file and click Share with Anchor.
Step 2: Enable Sharing and Configure Settings
Click "Enable Sharing" located at the top-right corner of the window.
You'll now see multiple settings. You can set the access level as either Edit or View.
Edit: Allows the recipients to edit and collaborate. The recipient must have the Anchor agent installed.
View: Provides a read-only copy of the folder or file.
- You can also set the Link Expiry date, after which the folder or file will no longer be accessible. The default setting is 60 days.
Step 3: Set Access Permissions
There are two types of control for setting permissions:
Password-Protected Access: Users will be prompted to create a password, which will be required for others to access the files/folders. After setting, click "Save & Copy URL" to get the shareable link.
Restricted Access: Enter the email addresses of the recipients. You have the option to notify them via email and/or allow unprotected download of the folder. Click "Save and Copy URL" to complete the setup.
Step 4: Sharing Files vs. Folders
To share a file, the process is similar to sharing a folder. However, the "Allow Unprotected Download" checkbox is only available for folders.
Step 5: Managing Shared Links
All shared links can be managed through our Anchor Share Management Platform. For more information on managing shared links, please click here.
